What Is a Thesis Statement?

A thesis statement answers your research question. It is an expression of your stance - or position - on your topic. Your thesis statement show that you have explored your topic deeply in a quest to answer your research question and have come to a conclusion about your understanding of your topic. You must be able to support your argument with evidence (whether using data or the results of your research or both). The resources on this page will help you develop a strong thesis statement from your research question and help you construct your argument.
